Mastermind Groups

Are you familiar with Mastermind Groups? I am! They have been so important toward my success!

What is a Mastermind Group?

  • A mastermind group is simply a formal meeting – agenda driven, and outcome driven – meeting of highly motivated individuals, who share common goals and are driven to encourage and help each other improve and reach or exceed their goals.
  • These meetings can be in a virtual setting (most common) or in person.
  • There is a designated leader for the meetings. A recurring agenda. Some groups also include a “hotseat” time, where each meeting a member elects to explore a deep dive in their area of focus or challenges.

Where did the Mastermind Group concept originate?

  • Mastermind groups have been around for a long time. I came upon the phrase “mastermind group” in the classic book “Think and Grow Rich” book by Napoleon Hill. As Napoleon Hill states, a mastermind group is a “coordination of knowledge and effort, in a spirit of harmony, between two or more people, for the attainment of a definite purpose.” Napoleon Hill use the phrase “definite purpose” frequently. If you have not read his book, I encourage you to do so. You can find it listed on my My Toolbox page.
  • Another well-known group was organized by Benjamin Franklin. He called it
The Junto” and it was established in 1727. The Junto initially consisted of 12 members who met together – for mutual improvement – and focused on the discussion of science, political, and moral, topics.

Mastermind groups can vary in size. They can offer a blend of like-minded relationships, brainstorming, education, accountability, and support in a group to grow your personal success. Members actively challenge each other to set strong goals – and to accomplish them.

Each Mastermind group is facilitated for the best balance and potential successes by everyone. Each member sets their own goals and then makes plans to achieve them. The group helps each member challenges, through creative ideas and experience. The creatively and wisdom of the group is bigger than one individual.

Group membership requires commitment, confidentiality, a willingness to give and receive advice. Support each other with complete honesty. Each meeting has a strong agenda to ensure that each member gets the value they need.

Groups meet on a schedule and frequency that is accepted by all group members. Group size is limited to no more than 12 members to create the best conditions for each member’s results.

Sound interesting? The benefit to you is having your own peer advisory group – invested in everyone’s success.

Groups form and accept new members periodically.

I’m ready to be part of a group focused on success!
